Delicious amazing food, and friendly quick service EVERY time I go there. I always leave full, and with plenty of leftovers. :)

It's a mom and pop down home restaurant The service is good and prompt. Enjoyed the Mongolian Beef. The other dishes were ok: chicken chowmein, fried shrimp, eggplant, moo shoo pork. Our first time to restaurant. Would I return? Only If in the area and want to try something else. I am not going out of way driving to restaurant when there are other Chinese food places closer to home. Are the other eateries better? Yes.

Never said this before but this is the worst Chinese food ever. I ordered chicken pan fried noodles and the chicken was shooed up to the size of chick peas and the noodles were just lo mein noodles deep fried (and they were still soft and soogy). They're supposed to be skinny noodles that are super crispy. Also the sauce SUCKS! I literally can't taste anything it's so bland. I had to make my own sauce and add some seasoning just to finish it. This is the second time I've been here. I accidentally dialed them after using yelp while driving (oops). I thought since I ordered something different it would be better but it was just as bad as my first time here. Not worth it at all. I'm so mad. Next time I'm gonna try Mei's Chinese food in Shell Beach.

My god is this place still around? This place is so old and the building looks like it's going to fall apart and the food is not so Bueno. The owners may be nice and the service is decent but that does not change the fact that they are not very smart for not upgrading this place after all these years. Maybe they just don't care but these tables and chairs are awful. Feels like I am at a trailer park trash wedding reception, in the words of ESPN, come on man!

It's all about customer service... The owners/workers are very friendly and hospitable. They know us by name, even after we had stopped going there for a while. The older I get, the more I appreciate genuinely nice people. We love the food too. Pan fried noodles, Almond Chicken( spicy) and our favorite Sweet and Pungent Chicken are delicious.

Not a really good meal. I have not been to a place that charges for refills on iced tea in many years. Had to send my first choice back because it wasn't really edible. The soup was very very salty and the fried rice had very little taste. The chicken in my dish was nearly non-existent. I love Chinese food but will have to find other places to indulge my cravings. Sorry this place is not recommended.

Been wanting to try this place... glad it's finally off my mind, but i should've just walked down the street to Fruitiland . Made a phone order which was my first mistake. Asked the lady for combination plate and of course , she only told me about the more expensive one. But oh well :) And just FYI, plates only come with literally plain fried rice. . . Gave 3 stars because it was convenient, ready quick, and My sides beef and broccoli and sweet n sour chicken were delicious.

Dang. The reviews here are all over the map! So I came here with some friends, who have been before and liked it, so...here I found myself. The nice server we had was a bit odd, and made random aside comments in regards to conversations we were having amongst ourselves as he would drop off food or refill drinks, which was equally weird and hilarious. So...call service a wash. Wonton soup was okay. Good wontons, but bland broth and lite on veggies. The orange chicken was unique and tasty, not a Pand copycat (or vice versa...whatever it was good). The fried rice was good, not too greasy. The chow mein was nice, and had a decent assortment of veggies and meat. The few other items we had allude me now but it was al good, and I helped myself to seconds. We still had leftovers, so that's good. The prices were fine, and the food turnaround was quick (though we were the only ones there). All in all, I don't feel like I NEED to go back but would not object to a second visit. We paid with debit cards and didn't get the chance to put a tip on the card and so tipping was left to whatever cash we could scrounge up from our pockets which was inconvenient but...no biggie.

Been coming here since 1998 always good lunch spicals are the best in town Mongolian beef is on point it gets packed some times around 1 oclock but not so busy around 3

Lunch specials are the right price. Probably the best Chinese restaurant in 5 Cities but that's not saying a whole lot. The owners are very nice and service is good. I just wish that more fresh veggies were used in their cooking. We live in a top growing vegetable are and it would be great to see more incorporated into the mediocre and make it phenomenal.

I went to the Golden Moon for the first time a week ago. I had read the reviews and was struck by the disparity between the glowing ones and the pans. Could it be that the 5 stars are given by friends of the Moon, and the one stars by friends of nearby Chinese restaurant competitors? I found the GM to be quite a decent "gringo" Chinese place. Standard menu, service OK, I will go there again because it's close to where I live. They have mooshoo pork/chicken -- I don't think that is on the standard menu so that's another reason for me to go there.

I have never been dissapointed with the food here, I've only eaten here a few times when in the area but it's been consistently good. Also, the service is very friends AND they give you a one serve soup to go if it's part of your meal, that's rare for takeout.

  • Kayla W.

They were certainly nice. I had my 4 month old child with me and they helped career out the food to my car. I've been wanting to try Chinese food here in the 5 cities and I was Sally disappointed. The flavor was lacking and could have spent the same amount of money and made my own Chinese food at home. Great family but their food is not for me.

    (2)
  • Lydia C.

I ordered delivery and was extremely disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. Everything was mushy and completely void of flavor. I've never had to add salt to try and make Chinese food better... It didn't help... Super bummed to have to throw it all away.

I enjoy this place. I really like the atmosphere, the decor, and the service. Great people here that serve you. The food isn't the best food I have ever tasted, but its very good, satisfying, and I just enjoy being here. Give it a chance, it is very unique and enjoyable experience. Will return more.

I really wish i can find a 5 star chinese food place. I moved down here for business from the bay area, and searching for a good chinese food place...and this is my first stop. when i asked the lady whats good here and she said mogolian beef which i already know is not real chinese food, and even so the mogolian beef came out something completely different than what i had before.....sad to say a nice small family place nice people but the food is not just for me. i will try again maybe in the future and i will make sure tell them that i'm looking for real chinese food like the ones you would cook for your own dinner maybe that would help. 2 star for the nice people there.

  • Eli G.

Online, they said they would deliver, but when I called, they said they won't deliver, I have to pickup. So I got in the car and drove down here. It's 9:12, yelp says they are open, their own door sign says they are open til 10 today, but they are ignoring me through the locked door. Who plays games like this with their (wannabe) customers? Seriously, if you want to be closed, then be closed. There's nothing wrong with being closed, but don't tell me "Sure, yeah, we're totally open. Come on down sucker!!" Lesson learned, don't try to hit this unprofessional little shit-shack after dark. Found another chinese place a few blocks away that seems just fine.

  • Cimmone F.

This is not a fast food establishment but rather a cute Chinese restaurant that you can actually sit down at and have some tea. If you come in before 3 pm they have a fantastic selection of lunch specials that come with soup and a baby spring roll. Decent portions for the price. The staff here work very hard and are very nice people. Thank you for a nice lunch.

    (4)
  • Kim A.

The food is nasty. The only thing worth getting is the Orange Chicken. I won't be going back. Nice people nasty food.

  • will s.

Not our favorite. Everything was a bland overcooked mush......we will keep looking for a decent Chinese restaurant.

    (1)
  • Monica M.

They are nice enough but food was not good. Egg flower soup tastes like dehydrated onion too much... Like a dry soup mix. Nothing tastes fresh. Check in noodles tasted old. Snow peas had black spots all over them and the sauce on everything tastes the same. First and last trip. The egg rolls were the only redeeming item out off 4 dishes.

Made me lonesome for the good Chinese food in Oakland. The food here reminded me quite a bit of Mei's in Shell Beach. Heavy on the msg. Potstickers: Delicious and homemade. I really enjoyed these. Very delicate and fresh. War Won Ton Soup: $8 for 2 people, an add'l $2 per person after that. As far as I can tell, all that meant is that it came with 3 small shrimp instead of 2. The broth was very strong and smelled heavily of over-cooked broccoli. My kids wouldn't eat it and they love won ton soup. Sweet 'n sour pork: this is the kind with the deep fried golden chunks and then the sauce poured on top w/ barely cooked onions, bell peppers, and pineapple. So if you like it like that then you'll like this stuff. Personally, I miss old school Chinese food! Cashew chicken: tiny bits of chicken in thick brown sauce. Pork chow mein: over-processed pork and noodles in thick brown sauce. Heavy taste of msg. I'm pretty sure the pork bits came from a factory that way. They were very spongy. I had to ask for chili oil because soy sauce was the only condiment added. I also had to ask for chop sticks. Although the potstickers were good, I don't see myself coming back.

  • Rebecca B.

I really wanted to like it but.... The moo goo gui pan was tasteless and a piece of the cabbage looked as if it hadn't been washed, there were a total of three canned mushrooms in the whole dish and the soup was very salty! Very disappointing.

    (1)
  • Aaron B.

The food is mediocre at best. The sauces are very bland and mushrooms canned. The service is ok but nothing to brag about. The soup was very salty. Save your time and go to Panda Express.

  • Mary H.

Enjoyed lunch here with 2 of my daughters after a day of wedding dress shopping. Enjoyed every bite, starting with soup. We each had a different dish: Kung pao chicken, pork chow mein, & sweet n sour pork. We will definitely be repeat customers.

I have been going to Golden Moon for YEARS!! We LOVE it! The food is fresh and tasty EVERY time! It is definitely a family owned restaurant, so if you're looking for a cozy/quirky environment, a well cooked, delicious meal, head to Golden Moon! They don't have 30 servers...so sometimes you might wait an extra minute or two, but that's rarely ever happened to me! This is NOT a chain restaurant....so you're not getting your food slopped on a plate out of a tray of pre-prepared choices! They make your food fresh....when you order it...and it's delicious! These are good people serving yummy food! Check it out!

had 3 meat in orange sauce - hit the spot. Very good, big portion. Wife had the same 3 meat in general's sauce - also good, nice little kick of spice. would eat here again.

Order was wrong and lacked key ingredients to make food. Been eating Chinese over 40 years and will never go back. One star rating is to much. Just keeping it real.

This place is bomb. Food is great , and Phillip was extemely kind and courteous. Loved the sizziling beef and chicken plate. I recomend if your in the arroyo grande area just off the 101 frwy stop in and check out this little family owned resturant

We have now eaten here twice. Well, 2.5. Once I called in for pick up. The restaurant itself looks like an old house that is essentially falling down. it is painted white with red trim and has a nice sized parking lot/area. I have actually driven by this place my entire life and have never thought that it would be as good as it is by looking at it. When we walked in the lady behind the register immediately greeted us and immediately sat us. We were the only ones there. Unfortunately the restaurant inside is pretty bad. to the left of the front door there are booths/tables that were covered with paperwork and boxes, obviously not for customer use. the area she sat us in was to the right, and down a step. there were extension cords crisscrossing one side of the room and the decor needed some massive dusting. honestly, they could take down all the dirty chinese lanterns and light covers and paint the walls a nice bright color and the whole place would freshen up. we ordered several different items off the menu. i am a vegetarian so i had to be a little strategic in what i ordered - all the soup was make with chicken or beef broth. the vegetable chow mein was good. the star of the show, however, was the chef's special fried pungent tofu. i have literally been craving this since we were there. Food was quick to come out and hot. the only reason I gave three stars instead of four was because the place had a very dingy feel to it. Also, when we called for delivery a girl answered the phone like a house line, when i said i wanted to order for delivery she handed the phone over to her mom, who proceeded to butcher our address so badly for 5+ minutes we just changed it to pick up! Still tasty though. not amazing but a go -to in our small town for chinese.

They automatically start you with complementary tea. Big plus in my book. My dish (vegetables and chicken) was super hot and fresh. We didn't have to wait too long but long enough to know that it wasn't pre-made. We liked it so much we went the very next night and it was exactly the same. They will make any order spicy and can make any dish into a meal where you get all the extras like egg rolls, rice etc. I just get the dish straight up, not even rice (although they add a side of white rice for free), and I'm perfectly satisfied. My husband always gets the Kung Pao Chicken whenever we get Chinese. He's pretty picky (it has to have peanuts not cashews!) and he liked his dish. Best description is above average Chinese food and worth the money (well priced).

Live and learn. Our favorite Chinese place was packed and this one only had a few cars in the lot. Skeptical and hungry, we went anyways. The appetizers were burnt and our main dishes were both made from the same soured brown gravy. Mine had mushy chicken and my husbands had black and very burnt noodles. We paid and left with out plates full and tummys empty. The one star is for the friendly lady that took $10.00 off our bill.

  • Linda R.

My children were in town and after the beach we decided on Chinese food. We ordered quite a lot of food for take out. The food was not very good. The Kung Pao Chicken had a cinnamon taste to it. The shrimp dish smelled bad. The soup was tasteless and to top it off when we asked for an extra hot mustard she wanted to charge us for it. The mustard had 1/2 of a teaspoon in the small plastic container. Very dissatisfied and I will not go there again. I do live locally and certainly would not recommend this restaurant.

  • Tor W.

I was really in the mood for Chinese and based on the reviews it seemed that Golden Moon was the best in the area. If that is the case I'll have to forego Chinese for a while. Very mediocre food, gloppy MSG laden sauce and small portions.

    (2)
  • Lawrence A.

I like to go here any chance I get. The price and the food amount seems fair here but everything taste great!

    (4)
  • Kim G.

I had a taste for chow fun and tried out this restaurant. I pulled into the parking lot at 12:15 an I was the only car - not a good sign. People did start to trickle in and seemed to be regulars. The food was ok. I ordered off the standard menu, not the lunch menu. The portion size was a little small, I expected to have left overs. The lunch menu looked like it was a bargain. The place was clean and the service nice.

When I lived in SLO County in the mid-1990s, Golden Moon had the best Chinese food in the 5 Cities. In the early 2000's, I would come visit my parents and we would eat here, but it was not as good as I had remembered. Now that I am living here again, I picked up some takeout to take to my dad's house and the place LOOKS like an older version of what it looked like in 1994. I'm not sure if they have changed hands since then, but the food is not the same! And the fact that there was only one family eating there on a Friday night at 6pm tells me that the locals are going to Panda Express (which has a line out the door on Friday night at 6pm) or have given up on eating Chinese food in the 5 Cities.

It was ok nothing to write home about . I did like that everything was piping hot and it did have flavor service was ok. It's worth a try.

  • Kim H.

Ate here for dinner few days ago, while visiting the area. The service was okay. Ordered chicken fried rice, beef chow mein, and pork egg foo yung. The rice was old style fried rice and tasted good. The chow mein was lukewarm, but had a good flavor - just wish it was not served lukewarm. The egg foo yung was only only one patty, about the size of a regular sized pancake. The sauce was a dark brown sauce and tasted sweeter than what I have had in the past, along with broccoli, zuchinni squash, and other assorted veggies along with pieces of pork. The ratio of sauce to patty, we feel there should have been at least two patties - there were two of us eating this dish - and we had left over sauce with the veggies. This is why we took off one star. This restaurant did offer complimentary tea with your meal, but did not offer complimentary steamed rice, which would have been nice to use with all the leftover egg foo yung sauce.

Called them from sea crest resort and the lady said that they can't deliver. Had to go online to order and and pay an extra $5.50 for the special delivery. Ordered: - mongolian beef pretty good - pork chow mein pretty good as well - war won ton soup taste like ass!!!! Mainly soy sauce in water boiled with veggies and wonton. DON'T ever order this. Grand Total: $36.50 Thumbs up for the fast delivery and two pretty good entrees. Thumbs down for the price, soup, and the mannerism of the lady who answered the phone for their restaurant.

We've only been the The Golden Moon twice--once several years ago, and at that time we thought the food was really good. We went again last week and we were a little disappointed. It wasn't that the food was bad, it just wasn't anything we haven't seen a lots of other average Chinese food restaurants. The waitress was nice, but not friendly. The restaurant was clean, but could definitely use some TLC.

    (3)
  • Jim S.

I come from San Francisco and have been frustrated with the poor quality of Chinese food in SLO county. Then I discovered golden Moon. It's family run for 14 years. The food is good, hot and tasty. I judge restaurants by the quality of their soup. I love the hoy sour soup. Great Kung bao beef, chicken or shrimp and I love the warm sesame balls.

    (4)
  • Jonathan T.

To me, most Chinese food tastes the same. Probably because I drown it in soy sauce, so my review will be solely based on the atmosphere and service. It was nice and quiet when we came in. We were immediately seated. The food came extremely fast and the service was exceptional. This was a nice choice for a Thursday night dinner.

    (5)
  • Jeremy S.

food was pretty good, ordered our food was it was out to us pretty quick. wife ordered chicken almond but our waiter mixed that up with chicken chow mein but we kept it anyways, i had spicy beef broccoli. i guess my only beef was the fried rice, no vegi and no egg in sight but no all food types are alike. next time i am in the area we will come again.

I don't like giving bad reviews but this spot gave such bad service we didnt even bother to order. We are from LA and visited this joint while we were on vaca in Pismo. We were craving Chinese and checked out yelp. Saw some good reviews so we decided to try it. Walked in and wasn't greeted or even looked at. A woman was standing behind the counter and clearly saw us and said nothing. We walked up to the counter and asked for menus. She seemed completely annoyed that we were there. We had 50 bucks to burn on Chinese food and as we were ordering she still hadn't looked up once at us. Finally we just walked out. I suggest to not come here unless you want to be treated horrible.

  • Adrienne S.

This is my go-to chinese food restaurant, I think that the food is pretty good and service is usually pretty fast. Tonight I was disappointed to be told by the young lady who answered, that they can't deliver and I will have to order online. I have to say, this is probably the last time that I will order delivery from Golden Moon for the additional cost and impersonable service of the online ordering procedure. I wont let this keep me from going in, but since I order delivery more often, I will be finding a new restaurant for delivery.

  • Rose R.

I am Chinese and love the food here. It's the best I've found in SLO County. It has our family favorites like Sesame Balls, Bok Choy and Chow Fun. Pleasantly surprised to find an authentic Chinese Restaurant in AG. Don't go by the looks, just enjoy the food

    (5)
  • Robb M.

I am having the orange chicken she is having the sizzling plater with fried tofu instead of shrimp. It was above good, the orange chicken was fresh and tasty. The sizzling platter was good to the tofu had a meat texture leading me to believe that I could trust the chef to come again. For out of towners who are rushed we are a laid back community in the 5 cities area so chill and be patient this is family business.

    (3)
  • Lynn A.

Very pleasantly surprised. After the initial greasy fried appetizer trio, was pleased with the quality of what followed. Spicy dish of shrimp was very good, hot but not in edible and flavorful. The garlic chicken dish was not as spicy, but still had a touch of heat with a good flavor. Best surprise was that the steamed rice was brown rice, not the usual sticky, bland white stuff.

Good food, wasn't blown away. I wish 5 cities area had more Chinese places.

Prices are high. Food I ordered was terrible. Service was not great. I love Chinese food but never will I come here again. Portions were very small. They should use less sauce and adjust prices.

    (1)
  • K H.

good lunch specials at reasonable prices. Not much chicken in the general tso's, but the sauce was excellent. The accompanying items (fried rice, spring roll) were very good.

    (3)
  • Elizabeth M.

Been here three or four times because it is close to my house and the prices are decent. The food is just okay: fried rice has no egg or veggies, the war wonton soup is good, but a little too salty, and the curry chicken is totally bland. Once when I was there alone for lunch, I saw the server twice. Once when she took my order, and then when I had to literally shout to get her to bring the bill. AWFUL service. I just called tonight to see if they would deliver, and learned that they have a $25.00 minimum delivery. I get why restaurants do this, but why not just charge a $3.00 delivery fee instead? I'll go elsewhere for my Chinese take out from now on.

Good food pretty reasonable price about 29 bucks for 2. Not too fancy could use some music and fresh paint that would give it a huge boost.

Really good Szechuan eggplant. A favorite Chinese food joint-ette. Family run, pretty clean and very well worn inside with somewhat tacky decorations, but good food consistently. Fun to 'do' before catching a movie at the Fair Oaks.

  • Carolyn J.

Came based on reviews on yelp. Fam always craves asian food, even when we travel. Found this spot and pretty much got the basics: Combo fried rice Shrinp chow fun Mixed veggies Portions were just right. No waste. Service was attentive. Decor could use a little updating, but the food is what keeps patrons/visitors coming back.

  • Pamela L.

I usually try a place more than once before I write a bad review, but this place was SOOO bad, that I will not eat there again. Tried them thanks to Yelp...but not only was this the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted, it may actually be the worst of any food I have ever tasted. Ordered lemon chicken & potstickers. The "chicken" had the texture of a sponge (but lemon flavored). I am sorry, but I actually spit it out. The potstickers were okay. I only ate them because the chicken was not edible. I am somewhat new to the area & was really hoping for some good Chinese food. This area seems to really be lacking in quality restaurants. I don't understand this!!!

  • Truman E.

My wife and I eat here every time we visit Arroyo Grande. They definitely have the best Chinese food on the central coast. Every thing tastes fresh and is not overly salty or greasy. The orange chicken is especially good. They use real orange peels which makes the dish actually taste like oranges rather than the cheap fake stuff you find at most Chinese restaurants. The hot pepper chicken and kung pao chicken are also exceptional. Not only is the food amazing, but the family who runs it are very friendly and have a subtle sense of humor. If you are ever craving Chinese food on the Central Coast, you have to go to Golden Moon.

  • Noelle S.

I was craving wor wonton soup and veggie fried rice when I was up in Arroyo Grande on business. I checked out Yelp for a Chinese food place and this was the highest rated. I ordered wor wonton soup (without shrimp) and veggie fried rice. It was ready within 15 minutes (the time they estimated over the phone) so that was a huge plus! Why only three stars? While the food was tasty, there was this intriguing taste that was in both my rice and my soup. It wasn't an awful taste, but it wasn't something I liked. Even adding salt didn't help. While it didn't make me stop eating the food, I kept trying to figure out what that taste was. I never figured it out, but I will be trying somewhere else when I come back up here again. I'll most likely be back to Golden Moon, but not before I try the other places in the area.

    (3)
  • Gilbert P.

Found this place on yelp and decided to try it based on the stars. Staff was cool but the food was what we call AMERICANESE which is Chinese food made to the taste of what Americans think Chinese food should taste like. Nothing really spectacular here. PROS: Theodore who was cool and very helpful and the decor was straight out of a 1970's Bruce Lee movie. CONS: The food was bland for the price. Salt and Soy sauce is a must condiment if you plan to eat here. BOTTOM LINE: A definite AMERICANESE place. Great for a quick fix for those Asians looking for a local place that serves rice.

We've been eating at the Golden Moon for many years! Jack and his family are always wonderful hosts! They always have great service and a positive attitude! The food is always great quality. I recommend that you go visit the Golden Moon, in Arroyo Grande.

This place is bomb! Just happen to stumble upon this place while looking for chuck liddel's new gym. The food was quick to come out and was delicious. The price was moderate for an Asian restaurant. Service was great, our server was always checking on our table to ensure we were enjoying our meal.

My wife and I have a getaway spot in Arroyo Grande and we visit about one week per month. We passed Golden Moon dozens of times and said "We've got to try this place." When we finally did we were really glad. They have a very extensive menu. My favorite is their sizzling combination plate, which is kind of like Chinese fajitas. My wife loves the Emperor's Noodles. The mongolian beef is excellent. We now go there every trip over and have never been disappointed. What struck me is their sauces. Very tasty and not bland like a lot of Cantonese places. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

    (5)
  • Lisa R.

My husband and I have to make trips to big cities with large Cantonese populations to find Chinese food we really like. In the SLO County area, I'd say Golden Moon is one of our favorites. We finally ate here on Mother's Day. The owner and his family seemed very friendly and attentive, and well-known by local customers. They got slammed with a party of 49 coming in just as we were leaving (fortunately, they'd gotten a phone call to warn them in advance). I don't know if they are of Chinese heritage, though. This is a quaint little restaurant that appears to have been a house, with a little (old and tired) garden and chicken coop in the back. My husband asked me "What's up with the pink thing" when he noticed the unusual pink paint on the wall. It seems to be an American Chinese restaurant color scheme: pastel pinks, yellows, blues and greens. I was sad to learn that the "steamed fish" on the special menu was not the whole fish steamed. It was a chunk of swordfish, so I nixed that choice. We did the Beef Chow Fun (best I've had in the county, just like what I had many times in small hole-in-the-wall diners in Canton, China), Lemon Chicken (fried in small pieces with lots of thick, lemony sauce) and the Shrimp w/Long Green Beans (very good, too!). We'll be back, and hopefully we'll get to chat with Jack next time.

I absolutely love going to this place. The food is good, service is very prompt and the owners who work there Jack and Kim are always such sweet hearts. Hehe. It's so nice to still see places that treat you like a friend of the family that is visiting. hehe. Do yourself a favor....forget panda express and check this place out. If above nothing else the service alone is worth it's weight in gold in my opinion. :)

This place was recommeded by some locals. My family and I went there for dinner on Friday night. We were the only customers, but it was 9pm. It is a nice place, very firendly service. Four of us ordered fish, chicken, beef, egg foo young, fried rice and chow-main. Food was fresh. We were not impressed with the taste. All the dishes had the same gravy and pertty much did not taste much different. Having lived in San Jose bay area for 15 years now, this food is nothing to write to home about. I'll pass next time I'm in Pismo Beach.

The only Chinese place we eat at in town. No reason to try anywhere else. Fast service, delicious food, and family owned.

This is a small restaurant in Arroyo Grande, CA. I got there about 6 PM and was the only one in the restaurant. I kind of got scared thinking that it was a bad sign that I was the only one eating there. My fears were relieved as people started flocking in. In a 15 minute period, the place was packed. I ordered a chicken with green bean dish. It was hot and tasty. I got soup, egg roll, won ton, shrimp, fried rice, and tea for a good low price. The food was good and plenty. I'll come back next time I am in town.

My husband and I have been to Golden Moon half a dozen times. Everything is fresh and tastes homemade. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are perfect. Their food is sooooooo good. We were so sad to move away from it!

I cant agree with these reviews anymore. My boyfriend and I started going into this Restaurant within the past year and after a few times we went i and go the same thing they knew. It didn't take long. They are so hilarious, they crack little jokes and i just love them. You occasionally hear one of there children playing the piano and its beautiful. The chickens running around the yard, amazing. Now to the food and tea. Amazing. *My boyfriend gets the cashew chicken its amazing. * I get the sweet and sour chicken... AMAZING. We share fried rice and fried won tons and leave stuffed and happy as clams :)

It was a Friday night and my wife and I were staying in beautiful Pismo Beach, near the Arroyo Grande home of Golden Moon. As the hour grew late we didn't know where to go for a good meal. We'd driven passed Golden Moon once before on a previous trip and this was the night my wife and I decided to try it. Thank goodness they're open until 10 PM on Fridays. If they'd been closed I would not have been given the chance to share my new favorite Chinese restaurant! This old styled restaurant was immediately reminiscent of the Chinese restaurants I'd experienced and enjoyed with my family back in the 70's during my childhood(Red lanterns & vinyl seats!). I ordered a combination dinner ($8.95) which included sweet & sour pork, fried rice, a delicious tempura battered shrimp, an egg roll, and chicken chow mein. My wife ordered the fried pot stickers ($6.95) and we were very happy she did. They were fresh & hand made! This specialty is a treat as an appetizer but serves wonderfully as an entree! My single meal was enough for both of us but what satisfied more than just our hunger were the remarkable blending of flavors. Each separate sauce, from their mild sweet & sour to their potently hot &spicy mustard, is prepared in house and brings forth a special home made quality reminiscent of a long time ago. The owner, when he learned we were from Alhambra (east of Los Angeles), shared how every month they must drive to San Gabriel (also on LA's east side) where they load their mini van with supplies not readily available locally. I recommend Golden Moon for their quality and flavor, and this is by far the most crucial element to authenticity I can think of. You'll be happy you came! =)

There is not a shortage of Chinese Restaurants in this area, but the GOLDEN MOON raises the bar. I have been eating there for years, have tried most dishes and have NEVER been disappointed. The ambiance is authentic Chinese music and bamboo partitions. I love it when its crowded, because the sound is of happiness, clanging dishes and curious conversations. This is the number ONE Chinese Reastaurant I would recommend to people. Like I said, they have raised the bar.

I'm a Central Coast Native and small business owner... so there are very few restaurants in our area that I haven't visited. However the owners at Golden Moon and their fantastic Chinese offerings are what keep me returning! Jack and his wife remember us by our phone number -- even if it's been months since we've had a craving for Chinese! They welcome us by name and offer consistent, authentic and reasonably priced Chinese food. I've eaten Chinese in the best restaurants in China Towns in San Francisco and New York. Without being able to compare to China (that's on my bucket list), this is neck-and-neck with the best Chinese food I've ever tasted. Family owned and operated with top-notch customer service whether you are eating in or taking out ... this is the place to come when you have a craving for Cashew Shrimp or Szechuan Bean Curd. Yum! My mouth is watering so I'm going to go call them now ...

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
